Frequently Asked Questions

Which Therapeutic Services are Offered at OHMHC?

Practitioners at OHMHC offer a range of therapeutic treatments and services—including Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). KAP is offered by two of our licensed clinicians: Nancy Potts, LMHC and Samuel Washington, LMHC.

What is Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)?
KAP integrates traditional psychotherapy in conjunction with prescribed doses of the anesthetic ketamine. Ketamine is a safe, legal, and effective medication that is used to treat a plethora of mental health diagnoses—including treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, addiction, and PTSD. Practitioners at OHMHC partner with the specialized medical team at Journey Clinical to determine KAP eligibility, prescribe ketamine lozenges, and support practitioners in monitoring long-term outcomes for clients.

What are the Benefits of KAP?
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) provides powerful relief to clients who have struggled for years with treatment resistant mental health diagnoses. Ketamine is a uniquely safe and effective medication with relatively few side effects that does not require any drastic change in lifestyle.

When will the Effects be Felt?

Unlike with many SSRIs and other antidepressants, the effects of Ketamine will be felt within hours and last for several weeks.

Is KAP Affordable?

At OHMHC, we strive to ensure that KAP sessions are accessible to all qualified clients regardless of their financial status. KAP at OHMHC is already offered at a comparatively lower cost due to prescribing and providing ketamine lozenges rather than infusions—a preferred medication modality that is both low-cost and non-invasive. Additionally, KAP at OHMHC is available on a sliding fee scale to help us in achieving our mission of offering KAP to all and serving a wide and diverse population of clients in the Hudson Valley, Kingston, Ulster, and Duchess area.

What is the Overall Associated Cost of KAP?

In order to be considered for KAP, you must be medically cleared by a provider at Journey Clinical. The initial medical exam is 250$ and follow-up appointments are $150. After obtaining your prescription, ketamine lozenges can be procured for between $25-$70, depending on your dosing and the amount of medication sent by the compounding pharmacy. KAP sessions at OHMHC vary by provider, are offered on a sliding scale, and generally start at 100$ per hour.

Is KAP Covered by Insurance?

While the KAP sessions and initial/follow-up medical exams are not outright covered by insurance, you may request a superbill and submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Why Should I Choose OHMHC for KAP?

Unlike online counseling platforms such as Mindbloom or large, impersonal group practices that offer KAP, OHMHC offers a personal connection with a trusted therapist in a local private practice operating out of the Hudson Valley. Your KAP therapist will be involved with and participate in all aspects of your care in an open and safe environment. The intimate and familiar nature of OHMHC allows you to build a relationship with your practitioner both in and outside of KAP therapy, develop interpersonal connections, and receive holistic care.
